Portugal have reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after beating Switzerland on penalties. The match went to a shootout after the two teams were level at 1-1 after extra-time.
Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa was the hero for his side, saving three penalties. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty to send Portugal through to the last eight.
Portugal will now face France in the quarter-finals on Saturday. France are one of the favourites to win the tournament, but Portugal will be confident of their chances after their victory over Switzerland.
The match was a tight affair, with both teams having chances to win. Portugal took the lead in the 57th minute through Ronaldo, but Switzerland equalised through Haris Seferovic in the 68th minute.
Neither team could find a winner in extra-time, so the match went to a penalty shootout. Costa saved the first three Swiss penalties, and Ronaldo scored the winning penalty to send Portugal through.
Portugal will now be looking to continue their good form when they face France in the quarter-finals. France are a formidable opponent, but Portugal will be confident of their chances after their victory over Switzerland.
